Recognizing the
different awards is important to know what each award stands for. It serves as
an encouragement and inspiration to read for enjoyment, become lifelong
readers and provide more selection choices. Margaret A. Edwards Award, Alex Award,
Odyssey Award, William C. Morris YA Debut Award, Young Adult Library Services
Association (YALSA) Award for Excellence in Nonfiction and the Michael L.
Printz Award are awards given to recognize the author or book for young adult readers. YA
literature that encourages young adults to read are: Quick Picks for Reluctant
Adult Readers, YALSA’s Reader’s Choice, YALSA’s Amazing Audiobooks, Young
Adults’ Choices Reading List, and Teen’s Top Teen. Texas Reading lists include,
Texas Lone Star, Taysha Reading List, and Texas Maverick Graphic Novels Reading
List.
